Representatives from the Michigan Humanists are joining with local faith groups in the Fast for SNAP campaign, a united effort to highlight the urgent need to protect and strengthen food assistance programs. By standing together—across belief systems and traditions—participants affirm a shared commitment to compassion, dignity, and the fundamental right to nourishment for all. The fast symbolizes solidarity with those experiencing hunger and calls on lawmakers to preserve essential SNAP benefits that help millions of Americans feed their families.
We believe in an empathetic and compassionate approach to human relations. Every person deserves access to nutritious food and to affordable health care. Given our nation’s abundance of resources, there is no reason anyone should go without these basic necessities. People who require help meeting these basic needs should always be treated with empathy, compassion and respect.
We are grateful to have the opportunity to speak out and take action against the withholding of these funds and we hope for a day when there is no longer a need to protest injustices such as this.
