SUMMARY:Grand Traverse Humanists: Christian Nationalists Are Fighting A Holy War...Here Is Our Plan To Win It with Fish Stark
DESCRIPTION:Join the Grand Traverse Humanists on September 14\, 2026 at 6 PM at the Traverse Area District Library\, in Traverse City\, as we welcome the American Humanist Association’s Executive Director\, Fish Stark\, speaking on Democracy not Theocracy: Humanist Resistance to Christian Nationalism. \nAHA Executive Director Fish Stark will discuss how Christian Nationalism threatens democracy and our secular values. He will weave together humanist philosophy\, history\, ethics\, and theology to present a compelling vision of what we do believe rather than a negative vision of what we don’t — and how it can be used to oppose authoritarianism and Christian Nationalism. \nFish Stark is an organizer\, educator\, social entrepreneur\, and lifelong humanist. Fish has spent his career turning big ideas into bold action in service of belonging\, flourishing\, and social justice for all people. Fish lives in Annapolis\, Maryland\, where he is President of the Speaker Mike Busch District 30 Democratic Club\, is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis\, and serves on several nonprofit boards. He moonlights as an award-winning stand-up comedian and has performed in 13 states. \nLearn more about the Grand Traverse Humanists here.
