DESCRIPTION:This event is held online. (Click the button to join the Zoom meeting.) \nGuaranteed basic income is a topic that we have touched on peripherally in the course of a couple of recent discussions about other issues. At the next Café Inquiry Online we’ll take a deeper dive into guaranteed basic income – how it works\, what it tries to accomplish\, why some think it might be necessary\, and what the various pilot programs have demonstrated. For background\, this article from the Basic Income Education Network looks at the surprisingly long history of the idea. There is a link to a video summary near the top of the article if you don’t want to read the whole thing. This interview from the University of North Carolina gives a good explanation of what we mean by universal or guaranteed basic income. Finally\, this Vox article explains how the idea of universal basic income is not as radical as we might think. Join us ONLINE for what we hope will be an enlightening discussion! \n— \nCafé Inquiry starts with a short introduction of the day’s topic\, followed by casual discussion. \nThis event is free and open to the public.
